FAQS

What is Tommy Club?

The Tommy Club is a new and exciting way for you to help change the lives of our country’s most vulnerable Armed Forces Veterans. Our esteemed President, General The Lord Dannatt, has joined with WW2 veterans, influential individuals and business leaders to form the Tommy Club. The sole aim is to create a powerful new community that will support the best possible care for the deserving veterans of recent conflicts. You can join for only £30 a year. Every penny you raise, including your annual subscription, will go directly to supporting veterans with their practical and emotional needs. We will also be holding Tommy Club fundraising events during the year which will give the new Tommy Club community an opportunity to get together (social distancing rules permitting). We are already planning special gala events for next spring. We know that next year we will have many achievements to celebrate together.

Who is Tommy?

Tommy represents where RBLI began in 1919, supporting British soldiers returning from WW1. The story goes that German soldiers would call out to “Tommy” across no man’s land if they wanted to speak to a British soldier. Since then, we have supported many wounded, injured and sick ex-Forces personnel. We commemorate those who sacrificed for our freedom and help to look after our veterans of today.

Tommy is a hero and a symbol of hope. He has saved the day many times over the past one hundred years. During the coronavirus pandemic he was RBLI’s saviour, helping us to raise vital funds and keep veterans and people with disabilities in paid work. Tommy has been truly heroic for RBLI.

Who is RBLI?

Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) is a national charity established in 1919 to support the Armed Forces, people with disabilities and people who are unemployed. We improve lives every day by inspiring those we help and supporting them to find work and lead independent lives. RBLI is a registered charity with Registered Charity (England and Wales) number 210063. Additionally, RBLI is a Company limited by Guarantee Registered in England and Wales under number 00158479. You can learn more about RBLI and how they support veterans here

How is RBLI different from The Royal British Legion?

RBLI is a separate charity, both in governance and finance, from the Royal British Legion. RBLI has a distinct and consistent focus on service delivery, particularly in providing employment, care and housing to the Armed Forces Community. We also deliver our core capabilities of employment support for Veterans and people with disabilities into the wider community, and are committed to halving the disability employment gap. We also receive no funds from the annual poppy appeal and fundraise ourselves to deliver our own unique and wide ranging services for veterans and their families. You can learn more here.
